DMBJ Novel Word Counts and Graphic!

Produced collaboratively with
fox_of_nine_tales who made the gorgeous graph:
So I decided to figure out how many words there are in DMBJ, and this is a rough and not complete measure (see notes at bottom), but here goes:

Total: 2,568,358 (This does not include: vol. 2 chapters 41-55 because they are not in the epub, nor does it include vol. 4 or 5 because they were still in progress when I collected the volumes, nor does it include Yucun 4 or the other not-yet-translated stuff.)

So I decided to figure out how many words there are in DMBJ, and this is a rough and not complete measure (see notes at bottom), but here goes:

DMBJ vol. 1 - 159,660
DMBJ vol. 2 (Part 1) - 119,212
DMBJ vol. 3 - 118,068
DMBJ vol. 6 - 105,202
DMBJ vol. 7 - 103,350
DMBJ vol. 8 - 156,552
DMBJ vol. 9 - Tibetan Sea Flower - 138,142
DMBJ vol. 10 - Sand Sea - 312,191
DMBJ vol. 11 - Ten Years Later - 39,293
DMBJ vol. 12 - The Mystic Nine - 130,144
DMBJ vol. 13 - Restart - 273,911
DMBJ vol. 14 - The Southern Archives - 141,130
DMBJ vol. 15 - Wu Xie’s Private Notes - 39,115
DMBJ vol. 16 - New Years Specials and Extras - 240,410
DMBJ vol. 17 - Notes in Rain Village - 129,665
DMBJ vol. 18 - A Thousand Faces - 57,806
DMBJ vol. 19 - Moving Forward through the Flowery Night The End Comes Without a Sound- 53,756
DMBJ vol. 20 - Post Restart Sequels - 250,751
Notes:
These are all the volumes according to Merebear's translations, based the epubs, which I then converted to .docx in Calibre, and got the wordcount from there. It is actually probably 1-2k lower in most cases because I didn't remove any of the table of contents or anything to get the actual number.

DMBJ journey continued…
Sep. 18th, 2023 08:36 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
This is a repost from my journal today, which is relevant for this community. Feel free to share your own DMBJ journey!
I‘ve been taking a bit of a break from DMBJ after the Pingxie exchange, but as you could see from my recent art post, I‘m back in the right headspace for it now.
I am going to reread the parts of Volume 4 that Merebear has translated (they are more than halfway finished, so fast OMG) and catch up, so I can get closer to Sha Hai (that will take some time yet though).
Meanwhile I hear NPSS has posted new Rain Village chapters which I‘m saving for the really dark time of the year…
I‘ve also decided to finally watch The Lost Tomb 1. By happy coincidence,
bladedweapons has also started it and keeps linking episode reaction posts in
dmbj_tombraiders here in this community. Check them out for some lovely screenshots and Xiaoge gifs!
Also have a poll, because I'm in the mood:

Pangzi character file
Sep. 2nd, 2022 07:06 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I‘ve started collecting Pangzi-related passages from the novel (Merebear‘s translation) I’m currently reading in this entry.
My hope is that eventually there‘ll be a comprehensive file about Pangzi, especially regarding his backstory. Once there is enough basic information I‘ll put it on AO3. Feel free to add bits in the comments, I started at the second part of novel 1 (Angry Sea, Hidden Sands) but didn‘t take any notes during Part 1, for example.

Some thoughts on Chapter 60 of Novel 2
Apr. 19th, 2022 08:44 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Some things that surprise me and a very funny passage regarding Zhang Qiling here in my journal.
I found it really interesting, chapters 60-62 are basically told from Xiaoge's point of view which is such a change!
Chapter 60 at Merebear's site
